September Hero of the Month: Kalee Williams, MA, LMFT

Every month, we spotlight a counselor who has gone above and beyond for Uwill as our Uwill Hero of the Month. This month, we are delighted to recognize Kalee Williams as Uwill’s Monthly Hero.

Since joining the Uwill team in August 2023, Kalee has had over 500 appointments, impacting the lives of students all across Illinois, Minnesota, Oregon, and Wisconsin all with a very high feedback rating.

Check out our interview with Kalee as she discusses the flexibility Uwill provides her as a provider, how Uwill makes therapists feel seen, and some advice for upcoming midterm exams stress.

What excites you the most about working with Uwill?
This is twofold for me. First, it’s the students. I love working with the college age population. They’re at such a unique point in their lives and face really challenging transitions. And I love being able to help them navigate those changes and help them do some real core work and development work. Secondly, I love the flexibility in the work and scheduling around my busy schedule.

Can you illustrate the importance of a student being able to access a platform like Uwill?
I think the importance of taking care of mental health is becoming more prevalent and accepted in our society. Being able to offer that to college students for free really helps them learn how to deal with stress, manage time, and prepare them to be more successful as they become adults. I really wish that I would have had that help when I was in college and had access to those services.

What was it that first attracted you to working with Uwill?
I think the passion of the company’s mission and the flexibility of scheduling is what initially drew me to it. I’ve tried part-time jobs before that had really constrictive and minimum hours that made it really hard to work with my already really busy schedule. I think Uwill has made it really easy to work with that busy schedule. I could work at 11:00 at night if I wanted, or I could work whenever it works with my schedule. I think that really drew me to it.

What impact would you say that Uwill has had on you as a professional?
I really feel that Uwill does an excellent job of making therapists feel valued as clinicians and also as people. I love that you guys provide trainings and other opportunities to get licensed in multiple states as well as giving us access to see CEUs. I also love that you guys take a lot of opportunities to show us your appreciation.

What advice do you have for students who may be stressed about upcoming midterm exams?
Practice good sleep hygiene! We’re talking about putting phones away an hour before bed, making sure you’re getting eight hours of sleep, which no college kid ever is getting eight hours of sleep a night. Also, building in enjoyable activities and making sure that you’re not just locking yourself in your dorm room or in your apartment, just studying and making sure that you’re building time for having fun too. Sometimes it’s about working smarter than harder.
