Supporting Students Through Finals

Final exams can be a stressful time of year for students. According to the American College Health Association, student stress levels peak during finals. More than 85% of students report feeling overwhelmed by everything they have to do, especially during finals.

Increased stress can lead to a number of both mental and physical health issues including lack of sleep, skipped meals, reduction in physical activity, and even rises in substance use. To combat these stress levels, institutions have implemented initiatives to help students in some of the following ways:

Final exams can be a stressful time of year for students. According to the American College Health Association, student stress levels peak during finals. More than 85% of students report feeling overwhelmed by everything they have to do, especially during finals.

Increased stress can lead to a number of both mental and physical health issues including lack of sleep, skipped meals, reduction in physical activity, and even rises in substance use. To combat these stress levels, institutions have implemented initiatives to help students in some of the following ways:

  • Offer extended hours or “drop-in” mental health support
  • Host “de-stress week” activities such as therapy dogs, yoga, or free massages
  • Facilitate quiet study spaces and handing out wellness kits
  • Organize online drop-in support groups
  • Provide mindfulness and coping skill workshops
  • Communicate all the mental health support options students have access to during this stressful time

While many students find these initiatives to be helpful during finals week, many institutions still struggle to meet the demand from students seeking mental health support particularly during nights and weekends. Whether students are unaware of the resources being offered or they feel they do not have time to seek out the support they need, it is critical to provide students with as much support as possible to help combat academic stress.

How Uwill Can Help
Uwill allows students to connect with a licensed therapist of their choosing at a time that fits their schedule. Booking an appointment takes less than five minutes and same day appointments are available, including nights and weekends.

Here are some ways in which Uwill can help during finals season:

  • Increase Capacity – Uwill’s community of licensed therapists are available 24/7/365. With more students seeking support during finals Uwill allows on-campus counseling centers to provide students with more options as in-person appointments fill up and wait times increase. Students who book an appointment can do so from anywhere at a time that works for them.
  • Extend Hours – With Uwill students can book an appointment that fits their schedule, including outside of traditional operating hours from most campus counseling centers. This includes nights, weekends, holidays, and school breaks. Students even have the ability to book an appointment with a licensed therapist when out-of-state and abroad.
  • Provide Immediacy – Same day appointments with a licensed counselor are available through Uwill. Creating an account and booking a first appointment is easy. This enables students seeking help to receive qualified support now.
