June Rising Star: Anna W., MA, NCC, LMHC, LCPC, LPCC-S, LPC
Uwill’s Monthly Rising Star acknowledges one counselor every month who has “shined bright” in support of Uwill in their first year as a member of our counseling community. Congratulations, Anna W., MA, NCC, LMHC, LCPC, LPCC-S, LPC! Since joining the Uwill team, Anna has completed over 100 sessions across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Missouri.
Check out our interview with Anna as she discusses the joy in engaging with first-time therapy seekers, her connection with the Counselor Community, and tips for students navigating mental health in the summer.
What excites you the most about working with Uwill?
I truly love that Uwill is a student perk available to people at every stage of their academic journey. As a provider, it’s so rewarding to be able to support students through this important chapter of their lives. It honestly brings me a lot of joy and excitement to be there for them during such a key moment, especially knowing they have such a bright future ahead.
Can you illustrate the importance of a student being able to access a platform like Uwill?
Life can really feel like a roller coaster, especially when you are a student balancing new subjects and trying to earn credits for your degree. Offering support with mental health resources like Uwill can make a big difference in their journey and overall well-being. It’s a wonderful way to give back to the community and promote good health for everyone. Being there for students during these tough times can genuinely make a positive impact in many ways.
What aspect of your work do you enjoy the most?
Uwill students come to sessions with all kinds of different support needs and I genuinely enjoy how each session is unique. It allows me to connect with them exactly when and how they need support, no matter what that looks like. For the students who come back for ongoing support, it’s a way for them to get professional help without the usual barriers of traditional healthcare systems.
What are some skills you have learned from Uwill that you have been able to apply in your everyday practice?
Working here has really shown me the value of solution-focused treatment, especially since it often leads to success in just a short chat. At Uwill, I often have the privilege of being the first person someone reaches out to on their mental health journey. I’ve seen firsthand how support can look different for everyone and I truly believe that every single conversation matters and makes a difference for the people I get to help.
What was it that first attracted you to working with Uwill?
I found the population really engaging! I enjoy working with adults at this stage in my career, especially those who are eager to learn new ways to manage life’s stressors. The idea of it being a perk because of their student status really resonated with me, and I wanted to be a part of it. It was also a bonus to be able to use all of my licenses with universities across the Midwest, and the flexible hours made joining the team an easy choice.
How has being a member of Uwill’s Counselor Community impacted you as a professional?
It’s honestly so uplifting to see how mental health treatment keeps evolving to better meet everyone’s needs, including us providers! The community I’ve discovered at Uwill has been such a wonderful bonus, giving me access to CEUs and a supportive network for case consultations. Even though I rarely need to reach out for support, knowing these resources are available really puts me at ease. I truly cherish my Counselor Community at Uwill, especially because that kind of connection can be hard to find in private practice.
Would you recommend working with Uwill to a colleague?
Absolutely! I’m currently encouraging my sister-in-law, who just earned her LCSW, to consider Uwill as the next step in her career. I’ve had such a fantastic experience and would wholeheartedly recommend others to join the team too!
What advice do you have for students who may be struggling during the summer months now that they are removed from their school-year routines?
Humans really do thrive on routines, so my summer tip is to keep doing the habits that worked well for you during the semester. A few key things to remember are getting enough quality sleep, maintaining a healthy balance between stress and self-care, and don’t hesitate to reach out to friends or family (or your therapist at Uwill) when you need a little support.
