October Rising Star: Stacy H., LPC, ACS

Uwill’s Monthly Rising Star acknowledges one counselor every month who has “shined bright” in support of Uwill in their first year as a member of our counseling community. Congratulations, Stacy H., LPC, ACS! Since joining the Uwill team, Megan has completed over 100 sessions across Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Congratulations on this well-deserved accomplishment and thank you for your continued dedication to supporting students on the platform. We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with you!

Check out our interview with Stacy as she discusses how her experience in a college counseling center led her to Uwill, seeing students start to implement their new skills, and tips for treating Seasonal Affective Disorder.

What excites you the most about working with Uwill?
Helping the next generation of students.

Can you illustrate the importance of a student being able to access a platform like Uwill?
Many families are limited in resources and being able to provide counseling for free is a key reason students access Uwill. College students move from home, leave friends and family, start a new “career”, and leave their schools – all in one weekend.  Any one of these stressors alone would cause adults to suffer in their mental well being. College is a wonderful time but it is also full of a lot of change and stress.

What aspect of your work do you enjoy the most?
I truly enjoy hearing students make progress by implementing tools and strategies learned in the counseling session. Being able to check in and know that they are doing well is important.

What are some skills you have learned from Uwill that you have been able to apply in your everyday practice?
I enjoy taking the CE courses and learning new skills.

What was it that first attracted you to working with Uwill?
I worked in a college wellness center and we used Uwill as a resource for students. I wanted to be in a position to help students experience counseling in a positive way and hopefully encourage them to continue to use a resource like Uwill.

How has being a member of Uwill’s Counselor Community impacted you as a professional?
I have created fun Youtube videos (College Wellness 101) to help students.

Would you recommend working with Uwill to a colleague?
I would.

What advice do you have for students who may be struggling with Seasonal Affective Disorder?
Countdown the semester and schedule one week at a time. Many students begin to get overwhelmed and give up because they are trying to think of all the things that need to get done at once. Focus on this week- one week at a time.  Manage your sleep, stay active with friends and families, and see your therapist.
