Uwill recently attended the ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego, CA and had the honor to participate in a number of panel discussions throughout the course of the event.
Michael London, Uwill’s Founder & CEO, took part in “Addressing the Mental Health Crisis in Higher Ed: Approaches to Student Wellbeing and Resilience” panel discussion where he took time to explain how Uwill is tackling the mental health crisis on college campuses.
“I had the good fortune of knowing a lot of leadership within colleges and superintendents and they overwhelmingly mentioned mental health [issues with students.]” said London “The more I learned, I think it’s truly going to be the defining issue for education within our time.”
Uwill’s Director, Clinical Affairs, Erin Andrews, spoke at the SunStageX panel and discussed some of the key issues students are facing in regards to gaining access to effective mental
“78% of college students are looking for support when it comes to feeling blue, feeling sad, feeling anxious, feeling nervous.” said Andrews” We’ve got a large percentage of that population who’s really looking for and seeking help and then having a lot of barriers in place that’s limiting their ability to seek help.”
Joining Andrews on stage at the SunStageX panel was Hip Hop Legend and Mental Health Advocate Darryl “DMC” McDaniels who opened up about his mental health struggles and overcoming the stigma associated with seeking help.
“‘The King of Rock’, ‘My Adidas’, ‘Walk This Way’ thing, telling people that ‘life can be tricky’ was the setup for what I was really put here to do.” said McDaniels “Remove guilt and shame and you remove the pain. If you talk about how you feel, good or bad, you will heal.”
